I seem to be thinking about joining in with the February Album Writing Month… well the journal and pencil are ready. Ready for 2023. #songwriting #fender #telecaster Hello worlds! Time to play with the #nativeinstruments Kontrol S61 and #arturia Pigments synth. 🙄 now I have another couple of new unfinished ideas #songwriter Morning worlds! Time for a little vintage vinyl. Another one of my original albums from back in the day. Power, corruption and lies by New Order was their 2nd LP post Joy Division and, if I remember rightly received a review title “you felt the pulse now hear the sigh” (probably Melody Maker as that was what I was reading then) which was a play on words from the 1st LP. It’s not a bad album, it, just like New Order for me, has moments. Enjoying listening to it again. It’s a new strings sort of day #songwriting #journaling When it’s your birthday and the presents are the same as forty years ago. One of my all time favourite albums Head Over Heals by Cocteau Twins. Musically this was very influential in my own creative journey and Musette and Drums and Sugar Hiccup still literally stop me doing anything while I take a moment to listen. Just had to give my nails a little trim… Today’s vinyl accompaniment is The Party’s Over by Talk Talk. I couldn’t resist this white vinyl 40th anniversary pressing. Now, this album is not my favourite by them, as a band they matured with each release. However, it is a slice of perfect pop and the lyrics already show a depth of emotion that would be evident in Mark’s too short life. And ‘Have you heard the news?’ has one of the most moving sections in a song ever as Mark sings out “it’s so hard to sleep at night”. More perfect electronic (ish) pop. New Gold Dream by Simple Minds is today’s vintage vinyl accompaniment. Someone, somewhere in summertime is a perfect opening track and one of my favourites. And then there is Herbie Hancock’s guest keyboard solo on Hunter and the Hunted.
