The songs are coming along nicely. Here’s a pic of the tracker I am using. A tweak of some lyrics and then I should have some demos to share. I am really having a lot of fun with these songs, especially my homage to Blue Monday vs The Walk.
I am just about on track for completing 14 in 28 days. I managed to record some vocals, and once I have finished the lyrics to the others I’ll get them done.
I journal and plan and write pretty much every day. But there is also a sacred, special journal moment. Every month I journal on and around a word, a theme. I take time out to explore, to lose, to find myself, in one topic. I ask myself questions. I seek answers. I drift above the page, I meander across each pen stroke, and i am transported.
The word, my focus, becomes a tone, a sound. A melody flickers in and out of existence. Harmonies rise and fall. Rhythms saunter and shuffle.
This is the music I present to you. This is ‘music to journal by’. Tone poems to transport you to the page before you. Music to inspire your creative journal and planning process. Music that you can meditate to, make art by or simply to lose yourself in.
All my $1+ Patreon supporters receive this music and a PDF of my journal musings and prompts each month,

… that is the question.
But it is nobler of my soul to be exactly who and what I am. Therefore, I will FAWM.
I songwrite, therefore I am.
Thank you to all those who took part in my birthday giveaway.
I have drawn two winners and they are Miranda and Frank. I’ll be sending them DMs with the codes to download their prizes.
For those who didn’t win, I’ll be doing some more giveaways in the near future. In the meantime, you can always support the music on my Patreon, for as little as $1 a month you’ll get music to download and keep. Every little bit of support helps and keeps me in tea. There are ‘tears‘. However hard we try to avoid certain situations and events, our lives still contain elements of sadness. It might be a past hurt, an unresolved situation or the approach of each new day. We cry either within or without. This is natural. This is life.
As sadness encroaches, we can find ourselves overwhelmed. We seek ‘comfort‘. This Might be found from external sources, friends, family or others. It might be internal, from within, an inner peace found through spiritual growth.
Ritual might play a part. Personal victories, totems, cairns, altars, memorials. Prayer or manifesto may become our ‘mantra‘. We seek to be happy, to move from the sadness.
We change. We enter a moment of metamorphosis, a ‘chrysalis‘. From a previous state into the next. From sadness to joy, from fear to hope, from weakness to strength.
We are ‘empowered‘. We are not bound and held by our sadness or other negative emotions. We can overcome. We are not bound by fate but are fellow travellers. No emotion or substance or element or person has a right to control us. We are in control. We have emerged.
We spread our wings. We rise upon the thermals. We reach heights never before dreamed, or even imagined. We ‘soar‘. A new creation, a new being. Changed from what we were into what we can become.
Our dreams can become our destiny. True ‘transformation‘ leads to ‘freedom‘.
Now available to stream and buy on Bandcamp. Pilgrimage and possibilities and Transformation and freedom are instrumental / ambient collections that will take you on a journey and lead you to personal freedom. Let the music move you and release you.
When you get a topic entitled God save the Queen you know you’re in for a challenge. I’m not one for the archaic monarchy system. Hereditary rights have no place in my ideal egalitarian world (I can dream can’t I?). However, when this topic is given I have to put those thoughts aside and seek inspiration.
The national anthem of the UK (as long as it lasts) is the source of inspiration for the next piece of ambient music I am working on. Step one was to find the core elements of that well-known piece of music and see how they could be used.
First was the time signature. It would be 3/4. I immediately felt called to the rhythm of the first line. A rhythm that repeats itself throughout the piece. So that would be my recurring theme.
Then there was the series of four notes that come before the ‘send her victorious’ line. This is the one the football fans enjoy. I wanted to capture that rhythm.
Finally, there was the beginning. The drumroll and cymbal crash.
Those three elements will form the base of my own piece of music. Time to get on and finish it then.
I seem to have organised myself to such an extent that I actually know what music I am working on before the week begins. You’ll be pleased to know that this little update is written after I have begun, so it’s not just planned music either.
This week’s song to finish is Mermaid. It’s another song that has been around for a little while so it’s time to get a finished version. I’m also working on some short tunes for a project soon to be announced.
Alongside all this I am pulling together a punk track and thinking about what ambient punk might sound like. I think I am pushing myself with some of these musical challenges. If you’d like to support the music making then take a look at my Patreon page. Now back to the music for me.
